The dear old government has pledged another £100,000 which should allow the scrappage scheme to have enough funds to make the February 28th 2010 deadline, they have also reduced the age a car needs to be to qualify by 6 months which means all V reg cars are now included and all commercial vehicles up to 51reg are now eligible for the £2000.
However, in a sneaky twist the government already earn more out of the scrappage scheme than they put in, (the cheapest new cars on scrappage earn them at least £955 per registration on VAT charges) they are only due to increase this when the VAT goes up by 2.5% in January. This is going to reflect in the price of every new car…. a new Ka is due to go up by £250, Fiesta’s by around £350 and Focus’s by around £500….
